[insert Demetra’s in-depth knowledge of Skin’s here]
Sarah: My only knowledge of Skin’s comes from me meeting Ben Lloyd-Hughes (who appears in Season 1 of Skin’s) briefly in a the hotel Radisson’s hot tub in Chicago. Really I had only heard of the American version of the show and then my little cousin, Kristina, watched the UK version on Netflix. After looking up Ben Lloyd-Hughes’ IMDB, and finding the exact episodes he was in (& watching them) I would have said I was finished with the show… until I moved in with Demetra.
Actually, insert Demetra’s in-depth knowledge of Skin’s [Here].
Demetra: Skin’s is a great teen-drama show that was on e4, consisting of seven seasons. Skin’s was filmed in Bristol, so I HAD to see a few of the places that they filmed. Unfortunately – I did not run into Cook (Jack O’Connell) and elope with him…. I asked Sarah if we could visit Bristol while we were abroad and she agreed that if I found a cheap bus ride there she would accompany me. Luckily I found a fairly cheap bus ride, but I think it was three hours, it left super early tho so we just slept on the bus to Bristol.
Sarah: Demetra and Elliot watched Skin’s in our dorm room a lot over the course of a few months, so I became very familiar with the show. Demetra asked if I would travel to Bristol with her pretty early on in the semester, and I, up for anything/anywhere, obviously said yes. I wasn’t really sure if it would really happen, but I made a promise and I always (mostly) keep my plans. So at some point we made the plans to go and departed out out of a bus station near London’s Victoria (train) station, maybe also called Victoria’s Station?
Sarah & Demetra: We arrived at the Bristol bus station and ventured out to make our way towards the center of the town. We wanted to see as many “skins” related sites as possible. (We had researched places on our phone) Bristol is a VERY steep town! It felt like we were constantly walking uphill. First we tried to find Brandon Hill. We passed by the University of Bristol, we were not expecting the weather to be as warm as it was, and it was HOT. We eventually ended up at Brandon Hill Nature Park. We walked up to the top of the hill, and found the bench on which Cassie from Skins was filmed.
Sarah climbed to the top of this tower which had very narrow stairs – obviously I(Dem) didn’t because it was terrifying. The park had a bunch of waterfalls and ponds. After Brandon Hill we decided we would head towards decided we would grab lunch. We walked towards Bristol Harbour and found a pub with great deals. We ate outside, Sarah had fish and chips and I enjoyed burgers and we both had a cider while taking in the view of all of the boats on the harbor. When we were finished with lunch we took off on a mission to find Effy and Tony Stonem’s house from season 1-4 of skins. As we crossed a bridge over the canal an interviewer from BBC asked if he could interview us about people putting locks on bridges. Naturally I (Demetra) told him I didn’t see what the big deal was and people should get over it. I’m pretty sure he was not happy with this “American’s” response.
We followed maps on our iPhones.
Sarah: One was probably already dead. Demetra: Yeah, mine.
We passed Bristol Museum and Art Gallery, and decided to check it out. After we left we then walked towards the Stonem’s house. We had to cross a strange yellow bridge over a different part of the canal. We then walked thru Victoria Park and passed a bunch of beautifully colored houses. We finally made it to the Stonem’s house and although on the show skins it has a red door is no longer does in person. We then walked back towards the bus station, we were both very warm and very tired. We hung out in Victoria Park for a little then ended up walking thru College Green. Which I did not know until now but is where Cook, Freddie and JJ drink beers in the first episode of Skins Season 3. (!!!!!!) At this point both our phones were dead, we decided to go back to the pub where we had eaten lunch in order to cool down, relax, charge our phones and have a soda. We finally decided that we would not be able to last until our 9 P.M. train, and it was only 5 P.M. ! We went back to the bus station and bargained with the ticket woman until she agreed to put us on an earlier train for just a few pounds more. We both collapsed onto the bus and passed out, soon awakening back in our home town of London.
