Chasing Waterfalls in Krka National Park

While I was in Split, Croatia I really wanted to utilize my days in the best possible way so that I could make the most out of the short time I had there.  I had previously researched both of the most well known National Parks in the area: Plitvice and Krka.  However, Krka was much closer and less expensive so it was an easy decision.  Tourist stands all over Split have tour offers for Krka National Park, the best I found however was 220 kunas and included a ride to and from the park, a boat ride along the river, and four hours to explore the National Park.  It however did not include entrance to the park (but if you have a student ID you can get all of this for 280 kunas or forty bucks!  Tickets for this trip can be found at krkatour.com or if you are in the area, a tour group meets around 8-8:30 at the golden gate of diocletian’s palace.  I was staying in the palace area so it was a short walk, I walked to the meeting place at 8 AM to purchase the tickets the morning of, if you do not know if you’re in the right place it is by the stairs and at the top is the huge Grgus Ninski statue.

After about an hour drive (which I fell asleep during) you arrive in the area of Skradin then go on a thirty minute boat cruise to the National Falls where you pay for entry.  When in the falls I suggest doing a hike around the falls first, you can stop in all the museums, take photos and admire the beautiful nature.  Afterwards I went swimming in the falls which were so cold but fun!  There was still time to kill so I had a beer and split a chicken schnitzel with my boyfriend.  The food was very good and such large portions!  You can ask in the souvenir shops where the cars/buses will pick you up and try to be in the area fifteen minutes early for safe measure.  The bus picked us up a tad early and we had forgotten some people behind and had to go back for them!

*The park is home to wildlife including bugs, fish, and even venomous snakes so be smart and stay on the paths provided, but if you use common sense it is a great time!
