12 Places to Eat in London that Aren’t Expensive OR Mcdonalds!

Before the first time I ever visited London (or should i say before I LIVED there) everyone kept warning me how terrible the food is.  One of my bosses even told me that her daughter had eaten McDonald’s everyday because the food in London was so bad.  I was terrified – I HATE McDonald’s! What would I eat everyday!?  Luckily, most of the places in London provide appetizing food – at least to my taste buds!  I also was lucky enough that where I worked in Camden provided a home-cooked English meal everyday – bangers and mash YUM.

*Here I have Included are a few markets/restaurants with good food that won’t break the bank either!

  1.  The Breakfast Club (Soho) – A great place for a Full English Breakfast!  Very, very popular, and well-known for celebrities eating here.  There usually is a line to get in, but it’s worth it!
  2.  Veeraswamy – Higher End Indian restaurant that is not too expensive.  London’s oldest Indian restaurant.  Sadly, I did not get the chance to eat here but it has great reviews.

  3.  Portobello Market – Great street food, I still dream about the Chicken Paella !  I liked it almost more than the paella I ate in Spain.
  4.  Camden Market – A great area to try different types of foods, they have stands which provide tai food, chinese, mexican, you can even try zebra.
  5.  Pizza Pilgrims (Soho) – BEST PIZZA OMG.

  6.  Nando’s – A chain making it’s way to Chicago – but the Chicago version is not even close to as great as the one in London.  You pick an entree such as chicken, pita, wrap, etc. and a level of spiciness sauce then if you want a side.  Decent price for good food – and they’re all over.

  7.  Borough Market – Try anything from cheese to chocolates to bratwurst.
  8.  Getti (Marylebone High St.) – Really good Italian food
    bfastroast
  9.  Freemason’s Arms – A pub with really delicious Sunday Roast.  Enjoy with a pint!
    bfastpat
  10.  Patisserie Valerie – Great place for High tea or English breakfast or just for lunch.
  11.  The Golden Hind – Good fish and chips
  12. FryDay’s (St. Alban’s) – I know it’s a bit far from actual London but it had some of the best fish and chips I have ever had, and I am not a big fan of fish and chips!

Other great places that are chains and located all over include:  pizza express, for pasta, pizza or some really delicious salads, all bar one, or one of my personal favorites just for a quick sandwich – Pret a Manger!

I am not a big fan of most of the places I had eaten in Chinatown however – so if you are planning on eating over there… I just wouldn’t recommend it.

** Oh, and just for fun if you love macarons (I DO!) the best ones I had aren’t from selfridges, lauderee, or any french patisserie but from Whole Foods!!!! and for a great high tea go to the Orangery in Kensington 🙂
