Today, December 22, 2015, my sister and I finally headed downtown to Christkindlmarket, which is possibly my favorite part about Christmas… with the exception of presents, maybe.
Chriskindlmarket is inspired by the actual Christkindlmarkt in Nuremburg, Germany which began in 1545! I remember the large outdoor markets I visited while in Munich this April, which made this visit even more special than past years.
I try to attend Christkindlmarket every year, this year, however, I was unable to visit until now, right before Christmas, and take my advice… I will never wait this long again! It was absolutely packed.
If you want to get to the market you can take the Blue Line or Red Line to Washington and it is right there in Daley Plaza. They have clocks, scarves, hats, candy, all types of antiques one can gift to their family, which are made and sent from all over the world.
*BRING CASH, they may have ATMS earlier in the month but towards Christmas they remove the ATMS so I had to use the one under the Daley Plaza.

The lines were pretty long, especially for the schnitzel and bratwurst. My sister and I went into separate lines to cut down on waiting time, I grabbed us two spiced wines in the signature boot-shaped glass while my sister accidentally waited in the potato pancake line, so I bought some for us to snack on while we waited for our brats.
The food is great, and I really appreciate that they have imported German beer, because it really is the best. However, going this near to the holidays may have resulted in more people being at the market than usual, I mean it was two o’clock on a Tuesday, I’m sure these people must have jobs… right?
I am obsessed with German food, and I really enjoy the market so, going further – if you are in Chicago during the holidays, or month of December you should most definitely check it out. Have schnitzel, brats, beer, crepes, everything! It is a bit pricey, I don’t particularly actually enjoy the spiced wine but the cute little mug is worth it – 7$ tho! It’s also 6$ for a Bratwurst… I’d much rather travel to Germany and get a Bratwurst for 2 Euro, but – can’t complain! 🙂
