New Year Resolutions

This year I have decided to choose a New Year’s Resolution that I will be able to stick with, not that I have actually ever even chosen a Resolution to begin with in the past 23 years – but if I had decided upon one I’m sure I wouldn’t have stuck it out past the third week of January.  Quit drinking? No fun.  Quit smoking?  Did that on accident already.  Start eating healthy?    I like hamburgers too much.

My resolution is to read one book from every country in the world – Sarah is also currently attempting this!  My resolution would also be to travel more, but it’s not really a resolution, just something that I ALWAYS want to do 🙂

I have began my first country and book already, Afghanistan : A thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini,  I am about 100 pages in and already find the book very interesting – it is by the same author who wrote Kite Runner, another amazing book!

My next country will be Albania, for that I plan to read The Loser by Fatos Kongoli, then I will move on to  Algeria – I plan to read The Sexual Life of an Islamist in Paris by Leila Marouane.  When I reach Bulgaria a co-worker of mine is going to give me a few suggestions because she has actually moved here from Bulgaria.

In future travel plans I am hoping to travel to Australia or South America this year, broadening my continental coverage from: 2 to at least 3.  Flights to Peru and Brazil are both under 500$ so that’s obviously tempting me, and Melissa is still living in Australia, so I am sure I will bite the bullet and buy a flight out of Chicago soon, especially since it has finally started snowing.
