Finally! I have broken my streak of not traveling for approximately three months and at the beginning of the month traveled to Europe to visit my sister. Unfortunately, I have caused my MacBook some type of damage that is unrepairable, in conclusion I am having to write this entry on my iPhone…
Anyways… At the beginning of this month I traveled to Rome, Florence and Venice but before I arrived in Italy my mother and I spent a day in Helsinki, Finland. Before this trip I had never even thought of ever visiting Finland, my mother and I both hardly even knew anything about Finland besides it was next to Sweden. However after this trip I would probably consider moving to Finland and it definitely falls towards the top of my favorite country list.
we arrived early on a Friday morning and took the train from the airport to the central station. We stayed at the Crowne Plaza hotel, which was very nice, it even had a gym and sauna! Saunas are very popular in Finland. We walked around and explored the area, unfortunately most of the museums were closed with the exception of the Kensi museum which is the Contemporary Srt museum and is AWESOME! I highly recommend anyone visiting Finland to visit this museum it’s so different and interactive. We explored the nearby parks before going to Famu and Bar for dinner, I had the steak sandwich and tried reindeer! Dinner was delicious, by the time we finished it was eleven o clock at night but Finland does not get dark in June so it was sunny. We went to sleep so that we could get up early the next morning to go to the National Museum. Our hotel had free breakfast, and we were leaving for Rome that day so unfortunately I was unable to do many of the things that Finland has to offer. If I ever have a chance to return or if you are interested in visiting Helsinki you definitely should check out the amusement park, the sea fortress and the zoo – just to name a few!
I thought Helsinki would be cold but the weather was in fact quite pleasant. All I needed were jeans and a tshirt, the atmosphere was quite contemporary and eclectic, it reminded me of Logan square/ wicker park area in Chicago so of course I fell in love. ❤️
