I am sad to write that I have returned home to cold, gray Chicago from sunny, beautiful, Los Angeles, California. I found a flight for only 120$ on Spirit Airlines Website! That’s about half of what it usually costs to fly to California. The App Hopper alerted me of this extremely low price and I had to snatch it up. I flew out of O’Hare Thursday morning at six A.M. meaning I had to wake up at four in the morning (not fun). My flight arrived in L.A. an hour early so I was there by eight A.M. I called an Uber from LAX and met my cousin at her home in Manhattan Beach just before she left for work.
I grabbed coffee at The Coffee Bean and walked along the Manhattan Beach Pier, sat on a bench and enjoyed the sun, drinking my coffee and watching the surfers. I shopped around the area a bit – there are so many cute shops in the area. Then met my aunt and uncle at Rock N’ Fish for lunch. I had a cobb salad which was great (they are known for their clam chowder). My next visit to L.A. I plan to take surf lessons at Manhattan Beach, and I recommend anyone else would also, I have seen them train the surfers and from what I have witnessed it’s definitely worth the money. I met my family for dinner at Brick Works where we all had some drinks and dinner. My cousin and I then headed over to Amoeba to check out the records, this place is awesome – if you like great music you have to check it out. There is a huge selection although I think some of the records are a bit overpriced, you could probably find them second hand for like 1/4 the price. We then headed over to Hollywood where we were harassed on the walk of fame (good ol’ Hollywood) and met Sarah’s brother Matt for drinks at the Roosevelt’s library bar. The bar is really something else, it is darkly lit, and has a cool atmosphere – you tell the bartender flavors you like and he creates a drink, I had a sweet cucumber cocktail and my cousin had a blackberry drink.
The following morning I rode into work with my cousin before taking an Uber over to Westwood to check out UCLA and the Hammer museum, I grabbed an In-n-out burger protein style for breakfast (I am disgusting, I am aware of this) but hey, I’m in L.A. I can’t pass up In-n-Out. My cousin and I then attended a pop-up dress show in the W hotel before having lunch there. The restaurant in the W has this one appetizer that is like goat cheese you dip bread in and it is to DIE for – one of the best things I have ever tasted. My cousin and I later stopped by Whole Foods to buy a ridiculous amount of beer for my other cousins and I to consume later. We had dinner at The Rockefeller, I had the lobster stuffed avocado salad and it was amazing. We tried to truffle fries and tacos as well, the food here is really delicious and not too pricey.
My final day in L.A. we headed over to Bulletproof coffee in Venice, an interesting coffee shop where they put butter in your coffee. It’s all part of some type of diet but to be honest I really wasn’t feeling it, and my cousin definitely wasn’t – she took one sip and then threw out the coffee. It is very bitter but you can taste the butter… We then went to check out the Hollywood Sign, and began the long hike to the top before we realized we had to meet my other cousin for lunch. We got maybe 20 minutes into the 50-minute-to-an-hour before we had to turn around and head back for lunch, especially since L.A. traffic is insane and what would normally take 15 minutes driving turns into 45 minutes. We had amazing authentic Mexican food at Zacatecas, I love Mexican food and it was so good here I scarfed it down like a pig. I enjoyed the sunshine for about an hour more before having to head to the airport. I wish I didn’t have to leave – Los Angeles is absolutely beautiful and has everything you could ever need. I would move in a heartbeat the only thing keeping me from doing so is the traffic.. I hate Chicago rush hour I cannot even begin to imagine how crazy I would go in my car for three hours in L.A. but, that doesn’t mean I don’t dream about moving to sunny California.
